CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Some charges against Jermaine Cameron were nolle prosequi, or dropped, in Virginia Beach, but he was sentenced on others.
On December 19, 2022, in Virginia Beach Circuit Court, Cameron was sentenced on the following charges: 3 counts of malicious shooting at an occupied vehicle, violent felon possession of weapon, and firearm-shooting from a vehicle. In total, he was sentenced to an active ten years, with indefinite supervision.
He is still facing a charge of eluding police in Chesapeake General District Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced on that charge on March 9, 2023.
All of these charges stem from a shooting on interstate 264 in Virginia Beach, which Virginia State Police say led to a police pursuit before a crash in Chesapeake.
The Virginia State Police Communications Center received a notification from Virginia Beach police around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 about a shooting that had just happened in the westbound lanes of I-264 east of Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach.
The victim was able to pull over and call 911, police said.
According to the Virginia State Police, the incident started over a road rage incident in which the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Jermaine Lamar Cameron, fired several gunshots at the victim.
The description of the suspect vehicle, an Acura sedan, was broadcasted and troopers were able to find it and attempt a traffic stop on I-464 at Freeman Avenue in Chesapeake.
However, troopers said Cameron refused to stop and a pursuit began.
The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in Chesapeake near Route 17 and Canal Drive.
Troopers then say Cameron fled on foot. His male passenger was detained at the scene of the crash.
Cameron was found at the 2700 block of Misty Point in Chesapeake. He was taken to Chesapeake General for injuries sustained from the crash and later taken to the Virginia Beach City Jail.
