Police say it started around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday when a Chesapeake officer tried pulling over a vehicle on Greenbrier Parkway at Jarman Road for an unknown reason. The driver refused to stop, and instead, led the officer on a chase down Eden Way North and ultimately River Birch Run North. It was along that stretch of road that police say the driver pulled out a gun and fired at the officer. The officer then lost sight of the vehicle as it pulled into The Birches Apartment complex in the 1600 block of River Birch Run North, one of many in the area. When police finally found the car, it had been abandoned in the parking lot.

The officer was not injured.

“They apparently responded very quickly,” the woman said, “so that’s fortunate. But then, first thing in the morning on a Wednesday, that doesn’t really happen out here.”

No injuries were reported.

10 On Your Side’s Brett Hall was at the scene where he saw officers searching the apartment complex. A tow truck was also seen being taken away, but it is unclear at this time if that is connected to the incident.

Police say they are not able to comment further on the chase because it’s an ongoing investigation.
