ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — The front windows of a 7-Eleven in Alexandria were smashed after people drove a truck into the store and tried to take the ATM.
The incident happened at the location on South Whiting Street early Tuesday morning.
Keyredin Ibrahim, who works at 7-Eleven, told DC News Now that around 2 a.m., he was taking out the trash when he noticed a group of men in a car. That’s when one of the men got out of the car and grabbed him.
Ibrahim said the man told him and his co-worker to go inside the store and get behind the counter.
He said the group took out a hammer and smashed the glass window and a pickup truck reversed into the store. The group then threw a chain around the ATM and yanked it out of the store.
“They took our phone. Actually, they didn’t do anything on us, but they also took some stuff from the store like small cigarettes, rolling papers, and sheets,” said Ibrahim.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the incident left customers infuriated.
“[I’m] very, very shocked. I’ve never seen this in my life. I’m not gonna lie. Wow,” said customer, Zoe Haynesworth.
“It’s the third time it’s happened at the store… I’m aggravated. I’m upset that this is happening in my neighborhood,” added Moe, who lives in the area.
Police said the suspects stole tobacco products and a phone belonging to one of the store clerks.
The incident is under investigation by the Alexandria Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call 703-946-4444.
