UPDATE 2/27/2024 11:48 A.M. CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office has released new details in the investigation involving a man from Venezuela who allegedly sexually assaulted a minor.
Details remain limited; however, the sheriff says that on Thursday, Feb 22, 32-year-old Renzo Mendoza Montes was arrested after an incident that allegedly occurred with a 14-year-old girl in Campbell County in January 2024.
Montes has been arrested and charged with one felony count of Carnal Knowledge of a Child Without Force and one felony count of Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child.
“Due to the fact that is an active investigation, the sheriff’s office will not be releasing any additional details related to the case. We are especially sensitive to the fact that these crimes involve a young juvenile who lives here within our community. Like any criminal investigation conducted by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, upholding the integrity of a case is priority for our department and the Campbell County Commonwealth’s Attorney.” – Sheriff Whit Clark, Campbel County Sheriff
The investigation remains ongoing. Mendoza is currently being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Campbell County Sheriff’s is reporting that a Venezuelan citizen, who is allegedly in the U.S. illegally, has been charged with multiple sexual-related felonies.
According to the sheriff, on Thursday, Feb. 22, 32-year-old Renzo Mendoza Montes from Venezuela was arrested and charged with two felonies for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.
On Sept. 2, 2023, US Customs and Border Patrol detained and released Mendoza in El Paso, Texas.
He is currently being held without bond. WFXR News will update you with more information as it is released.
