Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of Virginia Beach woman

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police have identified a woman found shot to death Monday night on Westminster Lane, off North Great Neck Road.

On Wednesday, police released that the victim is 34-year-old Elena Wysong.

Police were called to the 800 block of Westminster Lane just after 6:30 p.m. for reports of a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, police say they found a woman who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Brandon Wyatt Wysong, fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by police.

Wysong has been charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Wysong is currently being held at the Virginia City Jail.

Jimmy Frost says it was a chaotic scene when he arrived home Monday night. That’s when he noticed a familiar group of children outside.

“I came up and said ‘what’s wrong?’ and she looked at me and she said that the assailant has shot her mom,” said Frost.

Frost says the young child saw everything unfold.

“She tried to stop the bleeding and she kept blaming herself. She kept saying over and over ‘It’s my fault. It’s my fault.’ My neighbor and I, the lady who lives down the street, kept telling her no it’s not your fault, it’s not your fault.”

Police say 31-year-old Brandon Wysong is responsible. Frost says after he heard what happened from the young girl, he is not surprised.

“I believed her, because everybody around the neighborhood that I’ve spoke to has all been very consistent and they’ve all said the same thing. ‘Well he finally killed her,'”he said.

“I’m mad. I’m really, really angry. I mean you got somebody that would do this to somebody they allegedly care about and so callously and then run like a coward into the night,” he added.

Monday’s shooting happened just up N. Great Neck from the scene of a triple shooting over the weekend. A Norfolk man was charged in that shooting.
