WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – A man robbed a Wells Fargo bank in Williamsburg on Friday, June 17.

Deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office responded to the robbery call at 820 E. Rochambeau Drive just before noon.

The investigation revealed a man entered the bank carrying a black bag and told a teller something to the effect of “I’m here to rob you.” The teller initially thought he was joking and dismissed him, according to a news release from the FBI. He then made it clear he wasn’t by saying, “Let me rephrase, give me all the money in the drawer.” He never displayed a weapon during the crime, the FBI said.

The suspect fled on foot when he got the cash and was gone before law enforcement arrived. There was no report of injuries.

Investigators describe the suspect as an older man with grey hair. He was wearing a white shirt and black vest or jacket with cut-off sleeves, as can be seen in surveillance images released to the public. He has a tattoo on his upper right arm.

The teller told investigators the man was sweating profusely during the robbery.
