YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A Yorktown man was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and assault and battery.

On Tuesday, July 2 around 2:30 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 6300 Block of George Washington Memorial Highway after a woman called to report that a male acquaintance had forced his way into her home and assaulted her.

Minutes later, deputies arrived on the scene and began searching for the suspect, who had run into the woods.

Just before 3:30 a.m., two deputies and K9 Nitro, located the suspect, identified as 65-year-old Thomas Edward Barnes trying to hide in the woods near the Grafton Woods subdivision.  

Barnes was arrested and charged with breaking and entering – felony, and assault and battery – misdemeanor.

He is currently being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
