Deputies: Suspects use stolen trailer to steal tractor in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Two men were arrested after a tractor and trailer were stolen in Gloucester County, deputies said.

On Wednesday night, Gloucester County deputies responded to reports at Chimney Corner Lawnmower that a John Deere tractor was being driven on the highway. The tractor was then loaded onto a trailer in the area of Vulcan Stone.


While responding, deputies observed a truck pulling a trailer with a tractor matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. Deputies discovered both the tractor and trailer had been stolen the same night.

Chesapeake residents 52-year-old Gary Shephard and 39-year-old Michael Leathers were arrested and charged. Deputies reported the two traveled to the area allegedly intending to steal a tractor from Trailer World in order to then steal the tractor valuing at $25,000.

The two face charges a two counts of grand larceny, two counts of conspiracy to commit larceny, two counts of possession of burglary tools, two counts of entering the property of another with intent to damage, two counts of damaged property.

Shephard was also charges with several traffic offenses. They are being held without bond.
