TANGIER, Va. (WAVY) — Drinking water has finally been restored to Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay after its main water line froze and burst back on Jan. 24.
The town shared the news on Wednesday afternoon, saying the issues had been corrected and that two samples showed the water was free from contamination.

“We have made the necessary repairs to the system, or isolated the leaks,” town officials wrote in a notice to residents. “The storage tank has returned to its normal working capacity and we have collected two bacteriological samples to confirm our system remained free from contamination.”
Residents had been forced to boil their water or use bottled water, which was donated by several local companies, while a new water line was installed.
