VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 22-year-old woman accused of killing two people while driving drunk had a blood alcohol content level that was more than twice the legal limit when police conducted breath test on her, according to court documents.
Caytlin K. Emmett-Wallace was charged with driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter-vehicle related, and maiming as a result of driving under the influence on March 3 following a crash in the 4800 block of Providence Road.
Two women, 20-year-old Kimberly Stewart and 30-year-old Felicia N. Parrish, died as a result of the crash.
Virginia Beach Police Department officers were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Emmett-Wallace, with “significant” front-end damage to it. They also found a Toyota Camry in a ditch with “heavy” side damage, according to court documents.
The driver of the Toyota was injured. Before she was taken to the hospital, she told police that she’d driven her car into the ditch because of how quickly the Chevrolet was approaching her, court documents state.
Emmett-Wallace told an officer that she’d had “several” alcoholic beverages and knew she shouldn’t have been driving. That officer said they could smell a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from Emmett-Wallace, according to court documents.
Police did sobriety tests on Emmett-Wallace at the scene and said she “showed impairment on all tests.” Police had her perform a breath test when she arrived at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, which showed that her blood alcohol content measured at .17, which is more than twice the legal limit, court documents state.
Emmett-Wallace is currently being held at the VBCC. She is scheduled to appear in Virginia Beach General District Court for a preliminary hearing on May 3.
