Elizabeth City high schooler charged with having gun, drugs in school

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A 16-year-old student is facing multiple charges after authorities say he had a gun and drugs at school.

The male student was arrested on March 13 after a fight a H.L. Trigg Community School in Elizabeth City, according to a press release from the Pasquotank Sheriff’s Office. 


Sheriff Tommy Wooten says the student was charged with misdemeanors for simple assault and resist delay or obstruct for an alleged interaction with a full-time school resource officer, who also discovered a handgun that was deemed to be stolen, a magazine with bullets, a plastic pill bottle containing marijuana and digital scales in the student’s coat. 

The student was removed without incident, Wooten says, and was also charged with one count of felony possession of a firearm on an educational property, one count of felony possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number, one count of felony possession of a stolen firearm and one count of felony possession with the intent to sell or deliver marijuana. 

The student was taken to Albemarle District Jail under a $4,000 bond.
