NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating a fatal Friday night shooting on W. Ocean Avenue. that led to a fatal barricade situation the following morning on Commodore Drive.
The shooting happened at 172 W. Ocean Ave. just before 7 p.m., dispatchers say. The 911 caller told dispatchers they heard seven gunshots.
When police arrived on scene, they found an adult man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on scene.
The preliminary investigation led police to the 8700 block of Commodore Drive where they found a car matching the description of the shooting suspect’s car early Saturday morning. The owner of the car was inside the home, police say.
Members of the Norfolk Police Negotiation Team attempted to make contact with the man inside of the home around 1:20 a.m., but they were unsuccessful. They entered the home around 12:30 p.m. and found the man dead inside.
Police say the man’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
