ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — An Elizabeth City police officer is on administrative leave after reports of property damage.
Police confirmed that David Sutton, Jr. is on unpaid leave while they conduct an internal investigation.
The department hired Sutton in 2004.
Earlier this month, a woman claiming to be his fiancée pressed charges against him claiming that he destroyed her property.
Court documents obtained by 10 On Your Side state that Sutton threw and smashed her $40 Brita water filter and jumped up on top of her car before ripping the windshield wipers off her vehicle.
That cost $200, according to court paperwork.
The fiancée also filed a domestic violence protective order stating that Sutton yelled at her and threatening suicide multiple times.
She claims that Sutton also physically abused her, including hitting her with a metal spoon on her forearm for “bringing pizza and not drumstick chicken” for dinner, according to court documents.
Documents also state that Sutton grabbed his fiancée by the hair and slammed her head into the steering wheel while she was driving because she did not want him to smoke in her car.
Sutton is expect to be back in court on July 30 for two counts of injury to personal property and the domestic violence protective.
NOTE (Aug. 10, 2018): Chief Eddie M Buffaloe Jr. with Elizabeth City Police Department confirmed that David Sutton Jr resigned from the department on Aug. 2, 2018.
