VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The first debate between Congressman Scott Taylor (R-Virginia Beach) and his Democratic opponent and Norfolk businesswoman, Elaine Luria, will be Oct. 30.
Taylor’s team says the debate will be at the Westin Hotel at Town Center at 11:30 a.m., but they are still waiting on confirmation from his opponent.
The debate will be moderated by the Central Business District Association (CBDA). The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation have been notified about the debate, according to Taylor’s team.
The announcement comes two days after Taylor said he was not participating in the debate on Hampton Roads’ local PBS station, WHRO, scheduled for Oct. 23. Taylor claims one of the station’s employees is biased against him.
Some of Taylor’s staff is under fire after it was announced a special prosecutor is looking into accusations that they forged signatures on a petition to get Shaun Brown, Hampton buisnesswoman, on the November ballot to split the votes between her and Luria.
WHRO’s radio affiliate, WHRV-FM, broke the story about the investigation last week and sent a press release out regarding the findings.
Taylor’s team claims WHRV Producer Paul Bibeau, who is said to be helping the WHRO debate, is “impartial and lacks journalistic integrity.” Taylor’s Facebook post refers to him as a “rabid anti Scott Taylor attacker online.”
