VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A former security assistant at Salem Middle School has pleaded guilty to carnal knowledge of a minor, among other charges.
Raphael Shields, 25, will serve 4 years in jail for the carnal knowledge charge, according to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say Shields had sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old Salem student after he picked up the child around 2:30 a.m. on November 24, 2018. He also admitted in an interview with police to selling marijuana out of his home.

The term for the carnal knowledge charge was 10 years, but 6 years were suspended. 5 year terms for both a procure minor for obscene material by communication and a possession with the intent to distribute marijuana were suspended.
The terms of Shield’s guilty plea also include supervised probation and 16 years of good behavior after incarceration.
He’ll also have to register as a sex offender, will be prohibited from contacting the victim or her family, and must pay court fees.
