Former Virginia Beach employee sentenced in child porn case

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man will serve nine and a half years in prison on a child pornography conviction, according to the Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

Virginia Beach officers arrested Bill Jones, who was a water meter reader for the city, in April 2017.

Jones pleaded guilty to more than 20 counts of possessing obscene materials with a minor. In court on Wednesday was Jones sentenced to 25 years, but the court suspended all but nine years and six months of that time.

Jones’ sentence also included supervised probation as well as several recommendations from a psychosexual evaluation — continued treatment, no unsupervised contact with minors, no alcohol and monitored Internet usage.
