VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Pungo community came together to honor a 4-year-old boy who passed away after a tragic accident last month.
Hudson Foschi passed away after being hit by an SUV near Princess Anne Road and West Neck Road.
The Hudson Strong Foundation was created after, and that foundation wants to honor his life permanently — with a new playground in his name at Charity United Methodist Preschool.
10 On Your Side is told the playground was one of Foschi’s favorite places to be.
The foundation teamed up with the owners of Blue Pete’s restaurant, Aristotle and Nick Cleanthes, to hold a fundraiser in hopes of achieving that goal this afternoon.
“This one hit our community pretty hard and it’s humbling to see how much rallying and support has come out for this,” said Aristotle Cleanthes.
“The name of the playground is going to be called Hudson’s playground that’s what a majority of the money were generating is going to go towards,” said Nick Cleanthes.
Food, drinks and Hudson Strong merchandise were available to purchase at the fundraiser.
Booths were also set up along the property, where people could look at different items donated by the community that were up for auction.
“It has touched everybody in the community personally so we felt the need to give them the opportunity to make a difference and help out,” said Nick Cleanthes.
If the foundation reaches their $40,000 goal, we’re told the playground will double in size and have more features for the kids.
If they surpass their goal, the extra money will go toward a scholarship fund in Hudson’s name.
