NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was wanted out of Hampton is now facing gun and drug charges after he was arrested in Newport News over the weekend.
Newport News police say officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the parking lot of the Heritage Trace apartments — off Warwick Boulevard — just before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Officers found 34-year-old Troy McGowan, of Hampton, inside the vehicle.
Police say officers discovered McGowan had active warrants for his arrest on charges of assault on family member and a protective order violation.
Officers also smelled marijuana coming from his vehicle. A search led to the discovery of marijuana, two guns, and suspected cocaine, police say.
McGowan was arrested on the outstanding warrants from Hampton.
Newport News police have also charged him with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I or II drug, possession of marijuana, possession of firearm by felon, possession of firearm with Schedule I or II drug and purchase/transport firearm under protective order.
