HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man hit by a car in Hampton early Saturday morning is seeking answers.
Hampton police said a man was walking in the area of Floyd Thompson Drive and Magruder Boulevard around 2:45 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle.
Police said the driver did not stop and continued going on Magruder Boulevard.
The man, 37-year-old Khalif Baucom, suffered two broken legs and a broken arm in the crash. He’s already had at least one surgery, but he has a long recovery ahead of him.
Khalif Baucom told 10 On Your Side from his hospital bed he was walking home from his night job as a bouncer at a local club on Magruder. He was on the phone with his fiancée Porsha when a driver hit him and never looked back.
“I was screaming help help me. One guys stopped and he came over to me and asked me something then the next thing I know I blacked out again then I woke up and I was here,“ he said.
Baucom’s family is everything to him, and that’s his driving force right now.
“If I had died, I would have been survived by my girl, my mom and two kids who would have to grow up without a father,“ Baucom said.
Baucom said, “If you’re the one who hit me and left me stranded to die, that’s really vile and messed up — honestly, I would like for you to turn yourself in.“
He added, he now has a new appreciation for life, because his still alive and says he is not done living.
Police have not said whether they are looking for a suspect in this case.
