GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Police are investigating a vehicle crash that left a 68-year-old Hampton woman dead early Thursday morning.

The Greenville Police Department responded to a crash on Arlington Boulevard near Wall Street around 4:30 a.m.

Police said they found that a vehicle traveling west on Arlington Boulevard from Red Banks Road, lost control and ran off the road to the right, striking a tree.  

It was raining at the time of the crash. Police say the weather conditions and speed contributed to the crash.  

The victim has been identified as Elizabeth A. Harper.

Her passenger, identified as Barbara A. Taft, is in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center.  

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Greenville Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
