NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Health officials announced new dates for vaccines and COVID-19 tests at Military Circle Mall in Norfolk. There is no cost to receive the shots or a test.
The testing clinic Wednesday afternoon drew 194 people who filled out some paperwork and had the familiar industrial-sized Q-tip inserted up the nose. The process took about 15 minutes, and results are expected in about two or three days.
“If they’re positive, we will contact them immediately as soon as we know. If they’re negative, we have a number they can call and if we don’t hear from them, we can call them, and we can provide written documentation if they request it,” said Bob Engle of the Virginia Beach Health Department.
Engle says the demand for lab services is ramping up again like it was back in the spring, so that’s why it’s taking two or three days. He said Military Circle Mall is not the place to go if you need a rapid result to return to work or you’re planning to travel in the very near future.
The next free testing clinic at Military Circle Mall is scheduled for Sept. 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The vaccination clinics will offer the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Children ages 12 and up are eligible to attend, however, they are only authorized to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
“While the MCM saw anywhere between 69-197 patients in July, this past Tuesday (9/7) there were 382 individuals presenting for vaccinations, and 246 on Thursday (9/9).,” noted Dr. Parham Jaberi, acting health director for Norfolk and Virginia Beach Health Department.
Walk-ins are accepted, however, advanced registration is encouraged.
The clinics are scheduled for the following dates and times:
- September 14 | 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. – REGISTER
- September 15 | 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – REGISTER
- September 16 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – REGISTER
Masks are required for everyone attending the clinic.
The testing clinic is scheduled for:
- September 13 | 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Testing is available for ages 3 and up, but minors must also be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
