PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia’s still seeing overall declining coronavirus metrics, including hospitalizations, but numbers are still higher than previous points of the pandemic.
Death reporting has also been up slightly recently, up to 34 per day on average. Deaths are up across the U.S., with 2,466 per day as of Thursday.

- New cases: +11,743 (1,514,862 total), 11,454 on average (trending back down)
- Deaths: +36 (16,088 total), has been down but back up recently (34 per day on average now) VDH says there’s a reporting delay this month as it applies new federal guidelines for COVID-19 associated deaths
- Current hospitalizations: -43 patients (3,467 total currently and 3,635 7-day average, trending back down, ICU numbers down (576) from record (676 patients), ventilator use down (343) after hitting new record over 400 patients recently
- (1,648 total beds still available statewide, 350 for ICU (adult and pediatric), 137 adult ICU beds
- Test positivity: 28.6%, has dropped from record of 36% on Jan. 7, was 5-6% in November
