KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — An inmate has been arrested and charged in the death of another inmate at the Lenoir County Detention Center.
The NC State Bureau of Investigation released on Friday that Kristen Nicole Graham, 29, was charged with death by distribution after consultation with the district attorney. Graham was issued a $250,000 secured bond after going before a magistrate
The SBI was called in to investigate after the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office reported the death of Stephanie Osowski, 40, who was also an inmate at the detention center. She was found dead in her cell last weekend.
SBI officials said Graham brought in the drugs inside a body cavity. The sheriff’s office said earlier this week it was trying to obtain funds for a full-body scan machine for the jail.
“While this is a tragic situation, it is good to have some resolution with this arrest,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said. “I’d like to thank the SBI for their help and investigation into this matter. The thoughts and prayers of the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office go to the family of Ms. Osowski.”
