Inmate mistakenly released from Newport News City Jail arrested in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — An inmate that was mistakenly released from the Newport News City Jail a few weeks ago was arrested in Henrico County.

Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney Anton Bell says Daniel T. Mowery, 41, was arrested in Henrico and charged with driving under the influence, second offense.

Mowery was released from Newport News three weeks ago, even though he had no bond posted in Hampton for violating a protective order.

Mowery’s wife had filed the protective orders after he allegedly assaulted her, according to Bell.

According to Chief Deputy Col. E. Sprinkle with the Newport News City Jail, the paperwork provided by Western Tidewater Regional Jail when he was transferred from them showed Mowrey was being held without bond on the three Newport News protective order violations.

Suffolk police said Mowery was arrested on June 29 on four violations of the protective order charges — three in Newport News and one in Hampton.

Mowery was granted a $4500 bond on July 12, along with a release to pre-trial services by the judge in Newport News. He was then released the next day, according to Sprinkle.
