CHESAPEAKE, Va (WAVY) — A used car dealership decided to spend Black Friday giving instead of selling by surprising a single mother of seven with a brand new car. 

Around 2 p.m. Friday, Tiffany O’Neal of Hampton thought that she was just getting a ride to bring her 15-year-old son to a job interview at Wine Automotive on Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake. 

“I was so confused when we got here,” O’Neal said. 

Things didn’t clear up initially when dealership owner Jeff Wine pulled a 2011 Buick Enclave around the corner. It wasn’t until Wine got out of the car and handed O’Neal the keys that she realized what was going on.

“Oh my God,  thank you so much. I cannot believe this!,” O’Neal shouted as Wine hugged her.

Wine’s goals had been reached. 

“Made some goals when I was 20 years-old, and one of them was giving back to he world,” Wine said. “When I bought this place, I really wanted to make sure it worked that way.”

Wine purchased the former Great Bridge Auto Sales earlier this year, and came up with an idea to give away a car every month to someone in need. The idea certainly isn’t an easy one for someone in the car business — where profit margin’s can make or break a business.

“I’m a firm believer that if you give, it will come back to you. I believe you in my heart,” Wine said. 

So Wine put up a nomination form on his website. To be eligible to win the car, you have to live in either Virginia or North Carolina — and have good story to tell.

“We already have more than 100 stories,” Wine said. “Many made me cry.” 

However, 15-year-old Taylin O’Neal’s story caught his attention. 

He wrote that his mother lost both of her modes of transportation.

“She does everything she can to make sure we are OK. She is disabled and has been waiting for her disability to be approved. All she wanted was a vehicle to fit us all at the same time,” Taylin wrote. 

He went on to write that earlier in November, the family found out they would have to move out of their house because the landlord let the house go into foreclosure.

“I know having a car would lift her spirits,” Tylin wrote.

O’Neal said, “This is the best thing ever. I’ve never been blessed like this in my life. I’m very excited.”
