(NBC) — Keith Urban already has experience as a coach on Australia’s version of “The Voice,” now he gets to serve as a stateside Mega Mentor for Monday’s start to the Knockouts.

“I don’t have to make any decisions,” said Urban. “I don’t have to break anyone’s, crush anyone’s dreams.”

But he is giving input to help the artists as they go head-to-head.

“That’s the part I love,” said Urban. “I love being able to work one-on-one with them like that and be able to help them in any way possible.”

The New Zealand native has an idea of what the contestants are going through. Urban competed on an Australian TV show in the early 80s.

“I know what that feels like to be so exposed and vulnerable,” said Urban. “And everybody handles that different.”

And when it comes to nerves he reminds the artist that the show’s audience has their back.

“They want you to be good so they’re already on your side,” said Urban. “In most cases, not the clubs I grew up in. Quite the opposite.”

Urban hopes that his guidance can help position the singers for their best shot to advance to the playoff round.

“I just want everyone to be the best they can be,” said Urban.

Their next chance starts Monday night.

Watch “The Voice” Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC4.
