NORFOLK (WAVY) – Led by a freshman and a senior, Landstown High School toughed out a rough, gritty, low-scoring game against Oscar Smith to win the Region 6A championship at Scope on Monday night.

James Madison-bound senior Mike Christmas tied Landstown’s team high with 11 points, but it was freshman Donald Hand who came up with several clutch baskets.

Hand hit a three-pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded to give the Eagles a three-point edge at the half, then hit the go-ahead three-pointer from the corner that gave Landstown a 39-38 lead with under two minutes left to play.
