Police say just before 10 p.m., police responded to a report of gunshots in the 1100 block of 21st Street.

When officers were looking around the area, there was a car crash down the street on the 1200 block of 21st. At the crash, officers found a man inside the car suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, 22-year-old Savion Cortez Williams, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash.

“My uncle witnessed him hit the pole and then there,” said a neighbor.

The neighbor said the man was driving a blue SUV. She said the car hit a street sign, before going across the street and crashing into a sidewalk. There are dirt tracks from where the car crashed.

“I just heard the thud which was probably his car hitting the curb,” the neighbor said. “There was no sound coming from the car. The driver’s window was shot-out.”

She said she didn’t hear the gunshots, but other people told her they heard at least five shots before the crash.

According to police records, there have been more than 30 homicides in the city this year.
