PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – More than 3,800 Virginians are eligible for more than $1 million in restitution from Harris Jewelry and Attorney General Miyares is urging Virginia service members and veterans to file a claim.
In 2022, the FTC and 18 states, including Virginia, reached a $34.2 million settlement with Harris Jewelry. The settlement came after the company used deceptive marketing tactics to lure active duty servicemembers to their financing program. Harris Jewelry falsely claimed purchases would improve credit scores and required servicemembers to buy unnecessary protection plans.
Under the settlement, Harris Jewelry had to refund millions to servicemembers, including more than $1 million in restitution to over 3,800 Virginia servicemembers and veterans. Officials are now urging servicemembers and veterans who were defrauded by Harris Jewelry to file a claim for a refund.
“Thousands of Virginia servicemembers were misled and defrauded by Harris Jewelry’s predatory business practices, and it’s crucial that they take advantage of this final opportunity to recover the money they are owed,” said Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares in a statement. “I urge all eligible Virginians to submit their claims as soon as possible.”
