NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A barricade situation in Norfolk that began Wednesday evening and continued through the night ended peacefully.

Police say officers responded to a report of a woman who barricaded herself in a home with the weapon around 8:16 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they attempted to make contact with the woman, identified as 58-year-old Renee Pierce, but was unsuccessful.

Police say after an almost eight hour standoff, Pierce walked out of the house and was taken into custody. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Pierce has been charged with discharging a firearm in an occupied building.
