Chesapeake police said 56-year-old James Wood is charged with two counts of malicious wounding and violation of a protective order with a deadly weapon. All three charges are felonies.

Leo Kosinski, a spokesperson for the Chesapeake Police Department, said an argument stemming from a previous domestic situation led to one man being stabbed and injuries to two others who were trying to break up the fight.

Officers were called to the scene around 12:15 p.m.

“There was a gentleman and another female standing here at the hot dog stand ordering food, and the next thing I knew, I saw another gentleman coming up from behind and when I turned around, I saw he had a knife in his hand and he was stabbing the other gentleman in the back and he just kept stabbing,” said a witness.

The witness ran inside the courthouse to get help.

“I just saw blood dripping down,” she said. “He was like, ‘get off of me, get off of me’ because he didn’t know what was going on, his back was towards him”

The two people who were hurt were treated at the scene, and the man who was stabbed was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
