CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Chesapeake cut the ribbon Thursday on the new CARES crisis center that will help address the growing need for mental health care in the community.
The center features Heron’s Cove, a voluntary program that offers rapid stabilization for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
Heron’s Cove has a “no wrong door” policy for accessing care. Those seeking care can walk in at anytime and receive services.
Some of the services offered include:
- Individual and family therapy
- Medication administration
- Psychoeducation
- Peer support
- Creative and therapeutic recreation interventions
- Safety planning that incorporates the needs and preferences of those served.
“It provides a great atmosphere for those who are experiencing crisis and probably the best part about this building is anybody can walk in any time to receive services,” Chesapeake Mayor Rick West said.
“At the end of the day is what can we do to divert someone from going into a mental health crisis, stabilizing them and really getting them back home and the supports that they need for that follow up,” Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare Executive Director, Ed Gonzalez said.
The center is located at the Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare, 224 Great Bridge Blvd. in Chesapeake.
The center will be open Monday June 3 for public tours, they start taking patients on Tuesday, June 4.
