CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – The Chesapeake Fire Department (CFD) responded to a fire on Southport Avenue Wednesday morning.

Fire crews dispatched to the 2800 block of Southport Avenue just before 6:50 a.m. after multiple neighbors called to report the fire.

Crews arrived to the scene and found the fire located behind the house, involving two detached sheds, a vehicle and a fence. The house was not involved, according to officials.

Chesapeake Public Works posted to X just after 7:10 a.m., saying that the 2800 block of Southport Avenue is closed due to the fire. There is currently no ETA for reopening.

10 On Your Side’s Raven Payne spoke with neighbors who said the fire seemed to have started in a garage. One neighbor said she went outside after hearing loud booms around 6:30 a.m.

Photos show a fire truck still at the scene nearly an hour after the road was closed.

The fire was considered under control just before 7 a.m. and was contained to the yard of origin.

No injuries were reported during the incident and the cause was ruled to be accidental in nature.
