PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – VDOT announced this week that new federal grants will be used to build, own and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along major travel routes.
The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Phase 1-A proposed awards were announced on March 19, 2024, at the Commonwealth Transportation Board meeting. The first investment of $11.3 million will add 66 fast charging ports across Virginia.
One of the recipients is in Hampton Roads. The first round of grant winners includes Global Montello Group, which operates an Amoco gas station in Chesapeake. It was awarded almost $700,000.
The Commonwealth of Virginia is projected to receive $100 million in federal funding over the next several years to install EV charging stations.
