CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — People in Hampton Roads are gearing up, literally, for former President Donald Trump’s rally at Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake Friday.
Several merchandise stands have popped up along Battlefield Boulevard in the past few days, two of them from Greensboro, N.C.
They have shirts, hats, cups, flags and more.
“People have been coming left and right every five minutes,” said vendor Reginald Purnell. “People have been pulling up. They’re very excited that he’s coming here.”
Purnell said he’s been to more than 200 rallies all over the country, and said this one has been the best in terms of sales so far this year.
“This one has been great,” Purnell said. “This is probably the biggest one this year as far as merchandise sales in the community. We’ve been real busy.”
Willis Brown has been selling merchandise since 2015 and said he’s enjoying connecting with fellow Trump supporters at his stand near the Great Bridge Bridge.
“I’ve been doing this since 2015,” Brown said. “It’s not just my business. I love what I do. I love this country that we’re living in and I don’t like the fact of what’s going on with the country. I’m 43-years-old and I really think Trump is the best man for the job.”
Supporters of President Biden, like PJ Hughes, were even stopping to check out the merchandise while we were there.
“I am just driving back from the doctors office and I see all these shirts — women for Trump, vote for a felon, all this other stuff,” Hughes said. “I just wanted to see what other stuff, propaganda, [that] they’re spreading out here and it’s quite interesting. They have an array of everything.”
Some supporters stopping by the tents were even getting information on how to sign up to go to the event.
Chesapeake native Stephen Lawley is hoping to get a ticket. He said Trump has a lot of support here in Hampton Roads.
“I’ve watched the rallies that he’s had and I just thought to myself, if I ever got the chance, I would come and support him,” Lawley said.
If you did sign up, you should get parking instructions for Friday sent back to you via email after verifying your tickets via text message.
Doors for the event open at 11 a.m. The parking lot opens at 8 a.m.
There will be no overnight parking allowed at Greenbrier Farms.
Staff at Greenbrier Farms told 10 On Your Side that the walk from the parking lot to the event is about a half-mile, so plan accordingly.
