CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – The Historic Greenbrier Farms is the location for former President Donald Trump’s first rally following Thursday night’s first presidential debate. The parking lot opened at 8 a.m., with the gates to the venue expected to open at 11 a.m.
Photos taken hours before the event show long lines of cars and people arriving early to get into the event.
The traffic was so bad trying to get to the event, WAVY’s crew covering the rally got stuck in it.
“We got here about 2 a.m.,” said David Rice, a Suffolk resident.
Rice came to the rally with his mother Dorothy.
“We had to be here,” she said.
David had a list of issues he looks forward to Trump addressing.
“I hope he talks about the economy and the state of the border and that they can do a better job, you know, get the political scene, you know, corrected and the economy doing better,” David said.
One Trump supporter with Type 1 Diabetes arrived early to the rally, holding a sign asking for Trump to protect her rights.
Edward X Young, a trump supporter, came to Chesapeake from New Jersey, arriving to the area around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. He said it’s his 79th Trump rally.
Video taken by WAVY shows the crowds forming ahead of the scheduled rally.
“I think this is going to be a very important, very exciting rally especially in the aftermath of the debate last night which was just a devastation of Joe Biden,” Young said. “President Trump was like a juggernaut.”
The rally is will start at 1:30 p.m., and Trump is scheduled to begin his remarks at 3 p.m. Tickets to the rally will be given out to people who registered.
