BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has taken a 59-year-old Colerain man into custody for the Aug. 31 murder at a Merry Hill Dollar General.
On Saturday, Aug. 31, deputies with the BCSO were dispatched to the Dollar General following a report of shots being fired around the side of the building.
While on their way to the scene, deputies were alerted that a man was lying near a vehicle where the shots were fired.
When deputies arrived, they found 60-year-old William Thomas Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Robert D. Wilson was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Wilson was confined into the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under no bond.
