When contacted by WAVY, Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell said the woman’s body was found in the 700 block of Route 37 and the call came in around 11:15 p.m.

The house where Wilson Williams and Shadae Roscoe lived sits on a big piece of farm property and became a crime scene on Tuesday night.

A welfare check on Roscoe led her friend and mother to discover her body after she had been shot.

Shadae’s mother, Nickie, told 10 On Your Side that she missed her daughter a lot.

“She was my only child,” Nickie said. “She was always laughing, she loved, and cared for people and smiled.”

Although the suspected shooter was missing, Wilson Williams called Ms. Roscoe while she was at the house.

When she asked him what he did, he simply asked her to take care of the couple’s 5-year-old son.

The investigation revealed Roscoe was involved in a domestic-related incident with Williams. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a ‘be on the lookout’ (BOLO) for Williams. On Wednesday, he turned himself into authorities and was charged with first-degree murder.

Wendy Lassiter, Roscoe’s aunt, said that Roscoe covered up abuse.

“We did not see it. Shadae covered it up,” she said. “She loved him. She covered up the abuse.”

Her untimely death came months before she was supposed to be in her cousin’s wedding.

“My daughter is getting married in August and Shadae got her dress,” Lassiter added. “It’s on the way for the wedding and no Shadae.”

Wilson was also supposed to be in the wedding, she added.
