GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Emergency crews responded to a fatal two-vehicle accident in Gloucester County on Saturday.
Around 5:15 p.m., Virginia State Police responded with Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office on a serious accident on southbound Route 17, near a Wawa, officials said.
A 1997 Acura CL sedan was traveling north on Route 17 when it ran off the left side of the highway and entered the median. The Acura began to overturn and continued into the southbound travel lane where it struck a 2021 Ford EcoSport. The impact of the crash caused the Acura to overturn onto its roof.
The driver of the Acura, 39-year-old Amber L. Velez, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 7-year-old boy, who was a passenger, was flown to CHKD in Norfolk for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
