CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Some employees from the Dollar Tree headquarters in Chesapeake fell victim to company layoffs as the chain implemented changes to the workflow.
A company spokesperson gave the following statement:
As a result of the store portfolio optimization we recently announced, we’ve made the difficult decision to initiate changes in our corporate workforce through both restructuring and reductions. Impacted associates were based out of our headquarters in Chesapeake, Virginia, and have been offered support including severance pay, access to COBRA medical coverage, career resources and our Emotional Wellbeing Solutions.
Back in May 2023, Dollar Tree told 10 On Your Side that they planned to lay of “fewer than 90” employees based at its headquarters. The reasoning being that the company aims to create an outsourced model its Enterprise Contact Center.
The company also took a hit in a fourth-quarter loss reported in March. Family Dollar was originally a rival chain before being acquired by the company. Now, almost 1,000 Family Dollar stores are expected to close after a tank in business.
Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData said in an emailed statement, to The Associated Press, that nearly 12% of current Family Dollar stores will be closing over the next three years.
