On June 3, Edenton Police Department responded to a report of fraud and larceny of a firearm. They discovered a former employee had cashed unauthorized checks from Down East Preservation. Nichols had warrants in Edenton for three counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense, three counts of felony identity theft, three counts of felony uttering forged instrument, one count of felony breaking and entering, one count of felony possession of stolen goods and one count of felony larceny of a firearm.
He may face additional fraud charges from Ashokie Police Department.
“This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of securing firearms. I urge all individuals with firearms to remember to keep those items in a safe and secure place, which significantly reduces the chances of unauthorized individuals gaining access to them. This is a crucial step in maintaining public safety,” emphasized Chief King.
