PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Crews responded to a fire Tuesday morning at the Wheelabrator incinerator plant in Portsmouth.
Both Portsmouth Fire Rescue and Navy Regional Mid-Atlantic firefighters responded to 2 Victory Blvd. around 6:30 a.m. Flames were coming from the roof for a while, but only smoke was visible as of 8 a.m.
It’s unclear how the fire started.
This comes nearly a year after another fire closed the Wheelabrator facility for weeks. However this fire has not closed traffic in the area like the previous incident.
