NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The summertime is always a challenging period for foodbanks, and the need only continues to grow moving through the second half of the year.

The team at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore serves over a million people in need and, in order to continue to do that, they need your help and support.

President and CEO Christopher Tan said he hopes people consider the foodbank a place they want to continue to donate time and money to, as it would go a very long way.

“September is Hunger Action Month across the country,” Tan said, “and certainly we’re doing our part at the foodbank here and everyday. If you follow us on social media, there will be ways for you to help out.”

Tan said they are also gearing up for their largest fundraiser of the year, the Mayflower Marathon, which will take place Nov. 22-24.
