FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — A parent has been charged after a 5-year-old student brought a gun to a Franklin elementary school on Wednesday, police say.
Police say the gun was unloaded and found in the student’s bookbag after a search at S. P. Morton Elementary School.
Officers responded to the school around 11:40 a.m. after administrators reported finding the gun. Police said they believe incident was isolated and there were no threats made to students or faculty.
The child’s mother, Shayonna Boone, has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor in relation to the case, and later was released on summons.
