(WAVY) — A number of region champions will be crowned in high school basketball Saturday with games all over Hampton Roads.
While all teams competing for region titles have already clinched a berth in the state playoffs, the region champions get to open up state tournament play in the area, while the teams that lose in the region title game will be forced to travel in their state playoff games.
Times and locations of the games listed below are subject to change.
Some region championship games were played Friday, with Franklin’s boys taking the Region 1B boys crown with a 67-59 win over Altavista at Louisa County High School, Hopewell’s boys defeating New Kent 72-65 to take the Region 3A boys title and Grafton’s girls beating Hopewell 57-44 to grab the Region 3A girls title.
One area private school team will be playing for a state championship Saturday as Norfolk Christian’s girls face Virginia Academy in VISAA Division II.
