PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — With increase travel during the summer months means more people driving on the road. Unfortunately, that also means increased demand for gas and therefore an increase in prices.
The national average for gas prices is $3.54 which is 10 cents more than a month ago and the same as a year ago, according to AAA. This increase also comes following Hurricane Beryl.
“Beryl caused limited damage to Gulf Coast energy facilities,” said Ryan Adcock, AAA Tidewater spokesperson. “Despite the minimal increase in the national average, Virginians saw a larger jump at the pump. The July 4th holiday was the continuation of what is sure to be a very busy summer for road travel and gas prices could follow suit.”
Average prices in Hampton Roads is $3.46 which is only one cent more than this time last year, but an increase from last month of more than 20 cents.
