WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An 80-year-old woman who went missing Monday morning was found dead on a Westmoreland County beach after drowning in the Potomac River.
According to a spokesperson for the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, an 80-year-old Gloucester County woman was reported missing at about 11:25 a.m. on Monday, April 8. Her family reportedly told the office that she was showing early signs of dementia.
The spokesperson said the woman was found dead on a beach in a residential area near Blackbeard Pond Road about an hour later, she had drowned in the Potomac River.
No foul play is suspected at this time, according to the spokesperson. The sheriff’s office did not identify the woman.
No other information is available at this time. Both the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police are involved in the investigation.
