HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — The Hampton VA Health Care System announced that it has received a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
According to the Hampton VA, CMS star ratings are a benchmark for hospital performance. The ratings system considers a number a measures including mortality and readmission rates, emergency department treatment and overall value of care.
“The CMS 4-star rating truly reflects the dedication and care our team invests in serving Veterans every day,” said Mr. Walt Dannenberg, Acting Executive Director of Hampton VA Health Care System. ” As with any healthcare organization, we recognize that we have both strengths to build upon and challenges to overcome.”
Dannenberg became the acting director of the Hampton VA Medical Center in August amid findings of substandard surgical practices at the facility.
The star ratings evaluates a hospital’s performance across several key areas of patient care:
- 4- or 5-Star Rating: Indicates above-average performance, reflecting a high standard of care.
- 3-Star Rating: Denotes good quality care, consistent with most hospitals nationwide.
- 2-Star Rating: Suggests performance below average, though not necessarily indicative of poor care.
The Hampton VA Health Care System is one of six healthcare organizations to receive a 4-star rating within a 25-mile radius of the central Hampton Roads area.
