HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Nearly two weeks after 4-year-old Codi Bigsby was first reported missing, police spent several hours on the scene near his house on Saturday night.
Community members told 10 On Your Side’s Jon Dowding that a child’s jacket and tire tracks were seen on the ground near Codi Bigsby’s home. A woman was reportedly searching in the area when she came across the jacket.
Witnesses say it took several hours for the police to arrive on the scene.
When authorities arrived on the scene, they searched the area before using police tape to block it off. Forensics and K9 dogs later arrived on the scene.
About two hours after first arriving on the scene, police began clearing the area. Community members immediately began to search the same area.
Cory Bigsby reported his son missing on Monday, January 31. Since then, Hampton Police have said that Cory is the only person of interest in Codi’s disappearance. He is currently in custody at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail on seven counts of felony child neglect. Those charges stem from Cory admitting to investigators that he left his young children (ages 5, 4 and 2) at home alone dating back to December.
Meanwhile, organizers are working to collect Valentine’s Day cards for Codi. A box has been dropped off in his apartment complex for people to drop cards. Another box will be placed at the soccer fields.
