HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – The Hampton Police Division has made an arrest in connection with a homicide that occurred Friday May 5 on Pembroke Avenue.
On Monday, police took James Edward Pepper into custody and charged him with one count each of murder in the second degree, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm in public, and two capias for probation violation.
It happened on May 5, police say a man died after being shot on East Pembroke Avenue in Hampton late that Friday evening.
Hampton police officers responded to a call for a shooting at 11:49 p.m., and when officers arrived, police report a man was found shot several times. Hampton Fire and Rescue took a man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as 39-year-old Daunte DeAngelo Lee Cooper.
An initial investigation reveals there was a gathering at the location. During the gathering, there was an argument between the Cooper and a male suspect.
